Rowhouse vs Grid Mate

Grid Mate is a suite of Lightning components at one price: grids, Kanban boards, related-list tools and Flow screen components. Rowhouse is a grid and nothing else: no seat price, configuration kept as metadata, and limits it publishes.

Switching from Grid Mate
The short answer

Which one, when

  • You want kanban boards, calendars, Gantt charts or maps in the same purchase as the gridGrid Mate. Rowhouse is a grid and nothing else.
  • Lists run to thousands of rows, and people paste from spreadsheets and need to undoRowhouse. Grid Mate’s related-list grids stop at 100 rows unless an admin raises the limit, no maximum is published, and it documents no undo of cell edits.
  • You want grids to deploy like the rest of your org, without JSON pasted into page propertiesRowhouse. Its grids are Custom Metadata. Much of Grid Mate’s configuration is JSON in Lightning App Builder properties, beside 31 packaged objects.
Concede the craft

Where Grid Mate is the better choice

  • A suite at one price. Grids, kanban boards, calendars, Gantt charts, maps, a pivot grid and a file explorer, with no tiers and no add-ons.
  • Editing depth in places Rowhouse does not go. Drag-to-fill, several record types in one grid, and bulk quick actions over a whole filtered list.
  • Things Rowhouse does not do yet. Grid Mate ships grid components for Flow screens and places grids on Experience Cloud pages.

What your users would work in

A grid your team edits like a spreadsheet

Grouped by stage with sums, overdue dates in red, big deals in green — every rule set on the Grid Admin tab, without code.

Figure 1. The finished grid: grouped by stage in the picklist's order, a sum of amounts per stage and in total, overdue close dates in red, big deals in green, deals in negotiation marked with a purple bar. Collapsed stages still count in the Total.

Built on a tab in Salesforce

One editor for the grid, its columns, display rules, filters, actions and child tables, checked as you type. Everything you build is Custom Metadata in your org.

Figure 2. The Grid Admin tab, on the Grid tab of the Account People grid. Close and Save are at the top, beside the grid's name; Save stays grey until something changes. Beside the tabs, the Grid Guide says what the open tab's settings do: Open ↗ opens that part of this page, and Hide help folds it away.

Three years, at 25, 50 and 250 users

Grid Mate’s license is a per-user list price, so its cost grows with every person added. Rowhouse has no license fee at any size; what it costs is the time to run it.

Your configuration

Where your grids are kept

Grid Mate

Grid configuration (31 packaged custom objects, custom metadata, custom settings and JSON component properties, all in the subscriber org).

Rowhouse

Seven Custom Metadata types in your org: built in a sandbox, moved in a change set, kept in source control, and never overwritten by an upgrade.

A suite and a component

Grid Mate is a productivity suite whose grid is its best part. It runs inside your org: the core grids are Aura components, and the newer visual components are Lightning Web Components. Much of a grid’s behavior is JSON pasted into Lightning App Builder properties, with overflow properties for rules longer than the 2,000 characters App Builder allows. Extending it means writing global Apex in your own org, and quick-action support needs a separate unmanaged companion package.

Rowhouse is one component with one property. A grid’s columns, filters, rules and actions are records in seven Custom Metadata types, and Rowhouse has no global Apex.

Where Rowhouse is ahead

Scale you can check. Grid Mate’s marketing promises no row limit; its own component reference says the grid “will never go beyond” a Row Limit that defaults to 100. Rowhouse publishes its ceilings and a benchmark at 50,000 rows, with the script.

Undo before the save, a log after it. Grid Mate’s Cancel discards every unsaved change at once. Rowhouse keeps 100 undo steps and can log each saved change with its old and new value; if the log cannot be written, the change is not made.

Keyboard work. Grid Mate publishes no keyboard documentation and no accessibility statement. Rowhouse is built to the W3C data grid pattern, with ARIA grid semantics and spoken announcements. No grid-first competitor publishes an accessibility conformance report, a VPAT or screen-reader test evidence.

Checked 2026-10-07; due for a re-check by 2027-04-07. Grid Mate’s values are its vendor’s own published claims; nothing was installed or tested. Something wrong? Tell us and we will correct it.

FAQ

Rowhouse vs Grid Mate: questions

How much does Grid Mate cost?

Its AppExchange listing publishes a list price of $15 per user per month, read on 7 October 2026, at the same rate billed monthly or annually and with no published minimum. Nonprofits and certified consulting partners get 50% off up to ten licenses. Rowhouse is $0.

Does Grid Mate keep data in my org?

Yes. Its grids run inside your Salesforce org, and so does Rowhouse, so data residency is not the difference between them. The differences are the seat price, where grid configuration is kept, and how far a grid scales.

How many rows does a Grid Mate grid show?

Its related-list, list-view and field-set grids have a required Row Limit property whose documented default is 100 rows; an admin can raise it, and no maximum is published. Rowhouse loads 10,000 rows on open, up to 100,000 by scrolling, and publishes a benchmark at 50,000 rows with its script.

Can I run Rowhouse and Grid Mate together?

Yes. They are separate packages and can sit on the same record page. A natural split is Grid Mate for its calendars, kanban boards and Gantt charts, and Rowhouse on the high-volume list pages, with Grid Mate’s seat count cut to the people who need it.

Nobody should pay per seat to edit a thousand rows.

Compare it on your own data: install it beside the grid you have, and keep both until you are sure.
