What is a managed package (2GP)?

A managed package is how an app installs into a Salesforce org as one versioned, upgradeable unit; a second-generation (2GP) package is built from source with the Salesforce CLI. Rowhouse will install as one.

In Salesforce

A managed package carries a namespace, a prefix on its components’ names that keeps them apart from the org’s own. Subscribers install it and the publisher ships upgrades; the package’s code can’t be changed in the subscriber’s org. Second-generation packages are created and versioned from a source repository with the Salesforce CLI and a Dev Hub.

How Rowhouse handles it

Rowhouse is not installable yet. When it is released it will be a managed second-generation package, linked from rowhouse.app, with its namespace planned as rowhouse; registering the namespace and packaging come before launch. You install the package, never the source. The installed version shows in Setup, not in the product, and every setting an admin edits belongs to your org, so an upgrade can’t overwrite your grids.

FAQ

Managed package (2GP): questions

Can I install Rowhouse today?

No. Rowhouse has not shipped. When the package installs, the install link goes on the GitHub page and on rowhouse.app.

Will I be able to read the code of what I install?

Yes. The source will be public on GitHub under Apache-2.0, and the package is built from that repository.

Free. Not freemium, not a trial, not a tier.

Install it, assign the permission sets, build your first grid on the Grid Admin tab. Everything else is in the Grid Guide inside the app.
