Rowhouse vs Mashmatrix Sheet

Mashmatrix Sheet has been on the AppExchange since 2016, and on its own documentation it is the most capable spreadsheet editor for Salesforce we found. Rowhouse edits less, groups and nests more, and costs nothing per seat.

Switching from Mashmatrix Sheet
The short answer

Which one, when

  • Your power users load and reconcile data all day: pasting into several ranges, upserting from Excel by External ID, merging duplicatesMashmatrix Sheet. For them it is worth $18 or $24 a seat.
  • You need the grid in a Screen Flow, the Utility Bar or an Experience Cloud siteMashmatrix Sheet. Rowhouse has no Flow screen component and does not run on Experience Cloud.
  • Most people edit a list now and then and cannot each justify a seatRowhouse. It costs nothing per person, so there are no seats to ration.
  • You want lists grouped three levels deep with subtotals, or related records opened under each rowRowhouse. Mashmatrix groups rows on one column and shows related records in linked panes.
Concede the craft

Where Mashmatrix Sheet is the better choice

  • The most capable editor we found. Undo and redo with a per-range Revert Update, paste into several separate ranges at once or tiled across a larger one, and lookups resolved from pasted Excel names. Rowhouse matches part of this, not all of it.
  • Upsert from a spreadsheet. A dedicated mode keyed on a Salesforce ID, an External ID, an auto-number or a field that is unique in practice, such as email. Rowhouse’s import matches by record Id or External Id.
  • More than one object on screen. Parent, child and grandchild sheets side by side, sheets joined by matching field values, and Union Sheets that merge up to three objects. Rowhouse shows one object per grid, with fields of related records up to five lookups away.
  • Places Rowhouse does not go. The Sheet component runs in Screen Flows, the Utility Bar, Experience Cloud sites and inside your own Lightning web components, with a published JavaScript API.
  • A steady release record. Three major releases a year since at least 2020, and 232 pages of documentation mirrored in English and Japanese.

What your users would work in

A grid your team edits like a spreadsheet

Grouped by stage with sums, overdue dates in red, big deals in green — every rule set on the Grid Admin tab, without code.

Figure 1. The finished grid: grouped by stage in the picklist's order, a sum of amounts per stage and in total, overdue close dates in red, big deals in green, deals in negotiation marked with a purple bar. Collapsed stages still count in the Total.

Built on a tab in Salesforce

One editor for the grid, its columns, display rules, filters, actions and child tables, checked as you type. Everything you build is Custom Metadata in your org.

Figure 2. The Grid Admin tab, on the Grid tab of the Account People grid. Close and Save are at the top, beside the grid's name; Save stays grey until something changes. Beside the tabs, the Grid Guide says what the open tab's settings do: Open ↗ opens that part of this page, and Hide help folds it away.

Three years, at 25, 50 and 250 users

Mashmatrix Sheet’s license is a per-user list price, so its cost grows with every person added. Rowhouse has no license fee at any size; what it costs is the time to run it.

Your configuration

Where your grids are kept

Mashmatrix Sheet

Books, sheets, views and in-sheet data (16 custom objects).

Rowhouse

Seven Custom Metadata types in your org: built in a sandbox, moved in a change set, kept in source control, and never overwritten by an upgrade.

The same job, built differently

Both put a spreadsheet over Salesforce records, inside the org. Mashmatrix organizes work as books and sheets. Its full application is hosted in a Visualforce page, and its Sheet component brings a sheet onto Lightning pages as a Lightning Web Component. Books, sheets and views are records in sixteen packaged objects, and in-sheet data columns hold values with no Salesforce field behind them: data that lives inside the package.

Rowhouse is one component, built from Lightning Web Components, and each grid is Custom Metadata you deploy and keep in source control.

Where Rowhouse is ahead

Grouping and related records. Three levels of grouping with counts, subtotals and a Total row, against Mashmatrix’s single row-grouping column. Related records open as child tables under each row, three levels deep; Mashmatrix shows them in linked panes beside the sheet.

The keyboard. Mashmatrix documents real shortcuts — undo, redo, copy, paste, and typing straight into a cell — but not a navigation model. Rowhouse is built to the W3C data grid pattern, with arrow-key navigation, ARIA grid semantics and spoken announcements.

No tiers. The three features Mashmatrix’s marketing leads with sit in its Enterprise tier or, in Japan, are sold as options. Rowhouse has no tier, no feature gate and no upsell.

FAQ

Rowhouse vs Mashmatrix Sheet: questions

Is Mashmatrix Sheet a better editor than Rowhouse?

For power users, on the evidence of its documentation, yes. It documents multi-range paste, tiled paste, keyed upsert from Excel and a per-range revert that Rowhouse does not have. Rowhouse’s edge is elsewhere: three levels of grouping with subtotals, related records under each row, and no seat price.

What does Mashmatrix Sheet cost?

Its English price list shows Standard at $18 and Enterprise at $24 per user per month, read on 7 October 2026; mass approval, mass merge and matrix transformation are in Enterprise. Contracts are annual, with no refund mid-term. Rowhouse is $0, with no feature behind a tier.

Which handles more rows?

An admin can set a Mashmatrix sheet to fetch up to 20,000 records, 2,000 by default, shown 200 at a time. Rowhouse loads 10,000 rows when a grid opens and up to 100,000 as you scroll, and publishes a benchmark at 50,000 rows with its script. Mashmatrix publishes no benchmark.

Can the two run side by side?

Yes. They are separate packages with separate configuration. A natural split is a licensed Mashmatrix seat for the people who load and merge data for a living, and Rowhouse for everyone who reviews a list and fixes a few fields.

Nobody should pay per seat to edit a thousand rows.

Compare it on your own data: install it beside the grid you have, and keep both until you are sure.
