What is user mode?

User mode is running a query or a save with the user’s own access — their object permissions, field-level security and sharing — rather than the system’s. Rowhouse runs every read and write this way.

In Salesforce

Apex runs in system mode by default, which ignores the running user’s object and field permissions. A query can opt into user mode with WITH USER_MODE, and a save with AccessLevel.USER_MODE; Salesforce then enforces object permissions, field-level security and sharing for that operation and refuses what the user may not do.

How Rowhouse handles it

Every Rowhouse read and write runs in user mode, and every Apex class is declared with sharing, so there is no system-mode path in Rowhouse’s own code, and the build fails if one is added. The exceptions are stated plainly: a grid action runs with the access its flow or Apex class gives it, and a formula can read $User, $Organization and $Setup, which no field check covers.

The checks a request passes

In order: the Rowhouse permission set, object access, field-level security, sharing, the grid’s own configuration read on the server (which columns are editable, whether import or delete is allowed), and then your org’s own validation rules, triggers and flows. The browser sends a grid’s name, never a list of fields or an object, so a forged request gains nothing.

FAQ

User mode: questions

Does a save from the grid skip my org’s validation rules?

No. A save from the grid is an ordinary save, in user mode: your validation rules, triggers and flows run as usual. A record they refuse keeps its value in the grid and shows why, while the rest still save.

What does user mode not cover?

Grid actions. Rowhouse checks the object, the records and the action’s Required Permission, but a flow or Apex class runs with its own access, and a flow left in its default mode runs in system context. Give an action a Required Permission, or set the flow to run in user context, to limit it.

Free. Not freemium, not a trial, not a tier.

Install it, assign the permission sets, build your first grid on the Grid Admin tab. Everything else is in the Grid Guide inside the app.
